David-BittingsDavid Bittings, O.D., has been a Doctor of Optometry for nearly 30 years and has been serving the residents of Carroll County and the surrounding area for over 27 of those years. In his years of service to Carroll Vision Center, he has provided almost 100,000 eye exams to patients of all ages. Dr. Bittings now has the privilege of caring for patients that he began working with as children who now bring their own children to him for compassionate expert eye care. 

Dr. Bittings’ clinical interests include treating patients with dry eyes, cataracts, diabetes, glaucoma and retinal disorders. Dr. Bittings specializes in diagnosing, treating and managing eye disease, injuries, and disorders related to ocular issues from systemic disease.

His comprehensive eye exams use advanced diagnostic technology, including the newest Optical Coherence Tomography to see beyond the surface of the eye. This state-of-the-art technology uses laser technology to safely detect disease deep inside the eye. His proactive approach to your care provides valuable insight into diseases and conditions that affect your vision. Should the need arise, Dr. Bittings has established close relationships with locally renowned specialists for any corneal, glaucoma, oculoplastic and retinal needs.

Born and raised in Maryland, Dr. Bittings received his bachelor's degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). While working on his undergraduate degree at UMBC, Dr. Bittings held a Research Fellowship with the National Institute of Health-Gerontology Research Center. Upon completion of his Fellowship and undergraduate degree, he received his degree in Vision Science from Salas University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His doctorate degree was received in 1995, at which time Dr. Bittings returned to Maryland to practice optometry. He has been certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and the American Board of Clinical Optometry.

Family is especially important to Dr. Bittings. When he is not providing care, he is supporting his wife of 20 years with her endeavor’s as the CSO of a non-profit in Carroll County, as well as spending time with their tween daughter who attends school in Westminster. Dr. Bittings has dedicated over 27 years to providing compassionate care to his patients at Carroll Vision Center, located in the heart of Westminster.
